BIG RED BOUTIQUE: WE’RE 1!

As of this week, Big Red Boutique is officially one years old! It has been an incredible year filled with confusion, surprises (good and bad) and so many fashion moments! I’ve learned a lot including (but not limited to):

  • How to ship internationally (and not get charge a billion dollars)
  • Where to find the best (and cheapest) packaging materials
  • How to accurately list an item as vintage
  • What my customers want to see and wear

Something I’ve been preaching over the last year is confidence in real women. Something my namesake, Big Red, has instilled in me my whole life. I want to help give women of all shapes and sizes the confidence to try something new or feel good about what they’re wearing. Its too often the fashion industry gets caught up in the way our bodies look BEFORE we try on the clothes. How about we focus on how a woman feels when she’s in them, no matter the size? I’m a tall, busty girl with hips. I don’t look right in everything, but that’s ok. I wear things that make me feel confident, and sexy and me.

I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by so many beautifully confident women over the years and I’ve been trying to radiate the concept of confidence through my brand. The feedback has been so wonderful, especially when it comes to styling, so I pulled together a list of my favorite vintage-meet-modern looks from the past year for a quick recap.

This look will always hold a special place in my heart because its the first piece I bought with Big Red Boutique specifically in mind. I found it in an old dusty thrift store in Atlanta and its such a classic look.

Nothing like taking advantage of your surroundings, amirite? This floral dress is classic 90s and classic me, so it was a no-brainer that it needed to be photographed in this type of setting. Thank god the treasure finding correlated with my annual family vacation to Idaho.

My (twin) friends Sarah and Natalie have been so supportive throughout my entire process this year and I cannot thank them enough for their patience. Nat (an incredible photographer) takes a lot of the photos and Sarah serves as the model. Our photo shoots days are an endless mix of giggles and hugs, something the twins are known for (and why I love them).

In our first photo shoot, Nat took this photo because I “needed one where I was smiling”…looks like I could use that encouragement again based on the most recent shots.

This is my favorite picture of my gorgeous sister, Emma. It completely encapsulates her bubbly, live-life-to-the-fullest attitude. It helps that she’s also a total BABE and a half, right?

If any one image could embody my spirit, it would probably be this one. I have a constant struggle of wanting to look grunge, but still holding onto my girlish style. This look is my brain’s Wednesday Addams to my body’s Molly Ringwald.

This is my final and favorite look of the year. Its the epitome of challenging the style “norms.” I’m not one to conform, but even so, this look was daring for me and thrilling to try out.

In one final thought, I want to give a special shout out to 1) Big Red herself for being the kind, fabulous and fierce woman she is and 2) My family and friends who have supported me throughout this journey. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

To celebrate my one-year anniversary, I’m taking $5 off all orders that use the code BRBTURNS1 from now until Oct. 31!

Happy shopping & stay fabulous!
