STYLE: CAPES & PONCHOS!

They are donned by superhero’s, Dracula and Elvis. They have a cultural significance of mystery, horror and drama. But they’re also a staple in a women’s wardrobe (or at least they should be!). Of course, I’m talking about capes and ponchos.

For years, both capes and ponchos have made their way into fall fashion season after season and they’ve never gone out of style. Why? Personally, I think they’re the most versatile piece of outerwear. Wear it as a sweater over jeans, drape it over yourself as a coat with a giant scarf, let it hang over a dress and over-the-knee boots for a out-on-the-town look.

Because they’ve never left the styling world,  capes are available from all sorts of venues, vintage and modern alike. For this blog, I’ve pulled some capes from my Big Red Boutique collection as well as ones from some of my favorite go-to fashion outlets. Here we go!

Can we talk about how beautiful the embroidery is in this poncho?? The intricacy of stitching will make it stand out from the others. I’d keep the outfit underneath as simple as possible to make this your statement piece. Shop the style on Big Red Boutique here.

This cape/poncho hybrid could not be any simpler. It’s warm and goes with just about any outfit. I’d wear it over a fall dress with over-the-knee boots for a casual fall look.

MODERN STYLES

This is a bright, colorful (not to mention WARM) style. It also doubles as a blanket. Shop the style on ASOS

What’s better than a classic black cape? It’s perfect for fall and winter alike. I like the wear the black with an all black outfit. New Year’s outfit anyone? Shop the style onMissguided.

So ladies, you don’t have to be a superhero to don a cape. Look around, check some out and you might be surprised how powerful you feel in it. I’ll leave you with this shot from my personal Instagram wearing my favorite vintage cape.
